I could not have survived Prostate Cancer without my best friend and wife Annecia. She did everything a good wife would do to stand by me when I was down for the count.
The first face I was conscious of when I was brought back from the land of the dead was hers. She slept lightly the night of my surgery, was up early in the morning and stayed with me like a circling rescue ship, while I was asleep on the surgical table. If she could have been in the Operating Room with me she would have. She demanded updates from the doctors and as soon as I disembarked from the haze of the anesthesia, there she was to reassure me.
This smart and intelligent woman told me she loves me. I believe that, because her actions and deeds of graciousness underscores that. That is why I have immortalized her in the book of my survival story. In fact Prostate Cancer And Me...Or You, The Two Stages (Man To Man) could not have been a true story without the mentioning of this great woman, my best friend and wife.
Yes! I AM A SURVIVOR, not because of the odds but in spite of them. I believe to survive you have to do the things you do not normally do.
you have to take the negatives and convert them to positive. you have to be prepared to drag a boulder on your leg for the extra mile. In some instance you have to even become oblivious to pains, be it physical or emotional. also when emotions kick you in the gut cry like a banshee too, even if you are a hard core son of the soil like I am. From my stock and ancestry I have risen like a flower in otherwise arid conditions to tell my story and to help others. with torch in my hand I will light the survival flame until it blaze throughout the land, bringing awareness to the scourge of prostate cancer.
I have not gone off in seclusion like some celebrities and important persons who could have done much more for the cause of their fellow suffers by giving more voices to a disease that kills one in six men, and have a higher ratio than breast cancer with one in eight. significant people and organization have joined forces for breast cancer. For annual drives here they come. From the NFL, NBA, Major league, TV hosts you name it. To the contrast of that very few have spoken for prostate cancer, to where Prostate Cancer Month of September is sparsely spoken of, or in most cases not recognized. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS ONE OFFICIAL IN THE USA WHO CARES. I hate to think that because the male has been the dominant figure in society who has always taken care of himself that that chicken has come home to roost too. So it could well be "Go take care of yourself you prostate sick, prostate cancer man. you have always been macho, that shouldn't be any problem for you".
I wish they would know, as my wife did, that men do need to go to the doctor once every 8-12 months. That the appointments can be made for him too (while he is busy working) and that he can be dragged too, to the doctor's office. Maybe we should be quick and hurry to prevent us being mainly another noun (man) instead of a valuable contributor and asset to society and a nation. We need help! we need more survivor stories...Watch the attached video, and I hope it helps in a proper landing for all those who are in this arena. Click this link: http://youtu.be/m_7P_HDG9wo
