Sometime ago I mentioned that a man is subject to prostate cancer who has not flushed his prostate gland regularly. To put it in simple terms limited sex is not good for a man. This was not the figment of my imagination but was attested to by my doctor and other noted medical personnel.
Recently while driving and minding my own business I heard an announcement on the radio that had me almost pulling over to take notes as the DJ spoke. He had said that there was a noteworthy study that claimed that a woman that has five or less children is subject to breast and ovarian cancers. This is not even new from the medical and health fraternity as the National Cancer Institute in addressing reproductive history and breast cancer risks under Increasing number of births, states : The risk of breast cancer declines with the number of children borne.
It not only reminded me of what I said in my book Prostate Cancer And Me… or You, The Two Stages, (Man to Man) but also of the fact that when growing up in my native Jamaica, it was claimed and emphasized, and particularly by the older folks that a woman who did not have out her lot would be sicky-sicky and may die early. It was no wonder then that yes! they had lots of babies. A baker’s dozen and upwards seemed to be the norm then. With limited television and electronic gadgets to attract them, it was no doubt that people had time to procreate. When I was able to eavesdrop on the old people conversation and able to decode their many trick talk, I realized that they enjoyed it immensely too.
Octo-Mom and Artificial Fertility
This is not to say that octo-moms and artificial fertility is all that and and a bag of chip. Did Jacob's Rachael, the wife that he loved had only two? it stands to reason then that if a woman is shut up from having children, in my opinion that is how she was made and should not be interfered with.
Really though, does it not stand to reason too that if you use some kind of chemical or prevention process to alter natural pro-creativity that there has to be consequences and repercussions? For crying out loud! Some women even take pills to stop them from having regular bleeding cycles.
Paying The Cancer Premium
Once again the old folks were right it seems. They lived long, happily and prospered. Today we are bamboozled to think that to miniaturize families and living on top of one another like hornets in a nest, with two cars and lots of money in the bank is the best life. But if the study is correct and my grandmother and grandfather are right, what a premium to pay though, the premium of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.
I am convinced we have it all wrong or backwards. Not to beat a dead horse into the ground, but from biblical times people were allotted enough acreage for big families that would be passed down to succeeding families. Big families could defend each other like how the two sons of Jacob of his twelve, could massacre a whole city for violating their sister. Today though we have traded big families and the protection it offers for a child or two and ten guns.
And as we march up the creek without a paddle we wonder why we stumble and fall upon one another, and why we suffer and die from the various maladies endemic to a system.
Conclusion
Sorry to say many more will have to suffer and many more will have to die, as the path chosen was entirely up to us. Until no resident will say “I am sick” Isaiah 33:24 we have to keep on surviving. I have been blessed with the right to survive. Read more of my survival story in my book mentioned above and other motivating and encouraging expressions in Its On Now and The face of Faces.
Until next time, walk good and pack light my friend.
