I have been hearing the term kicking the can down the road recently, in more ways than I need to hear it.
Somehow kicking the can down the road is associated with trouble. Arguably the trouble will catch you in more magnitude and with more problems than it started out with.
Childish Glee In Kicking Can
So reasonably no one should be interested in, or want to kick the can down the road, unless you are on some countryside road, and maybe a little boy, and decided to kick the crap out of this can for the noise it makes, and the fun and childish glee you will have.
For sure growing up in the backwoods of Jamaica I used to kick many a cans down the road for the clanging sounds it made, and just to kick the heck out of them. That should be where the fun starts and stops.
Real World And Kicking The Can
In the real world though, kicking the can down the road is rightfully frowned on and is not encouraged for the reasons cited above. Additionally people are held accountable for such careless or carefree acts. Accountability can come in many ways and one thing for sure, is that you always have to pay the piper.
Yes Siree! There is nothing gainful from kicking the can down the road. If this disregard does not catch up with you, it will probably catch up with your posterity and those you love. For emphasis; people will trample on your grave for kicking the can down the road and the weight of blame will be left on your doorstep. To sum this up kicking the can down the road can have adverse effects on both you and others.
Most of that entire tirade you already know, so what’s my point in all this? My point is that I have seen too many people still kicking the can down the road with their health.
This behavior recently affected my family and maybe someone reading this can avert some of this devastation. Also
I am not trying to rebuke anyone for kicking a can down the road, as the cause and effect law will deal with you. However a rebuke works deeper in one having understanding than striking a stupid one a hundred times. So Word up my friend! As kicking the can down the road, in the real world, can turn out to be ugly.
She Kicked The Can Down The Road
Several months ago my wife had headaches and stomach problems that she thought was a passing experience. She ignored these of course. And so soon to be tacked onto those were sleep irritability and emotionality. She ignored all those symptoms. She kicked the can down the road. Then one morning she became so weak that I had to speed her off to the emergency.
Today she is fine and back to work having been diagnosed with overactive thyroid gland, which should have been caught with a simple blood test and thus avoid all these problems.
Many people continue to be like this in the overall care of their health and so we continue to morph in states of sickness. It is like we have a fashion with sickness, talking about my blood pressure, my arthritis, my this-mythat; as if it is supposed to put you in a certain seat in the house, and of course gain you that parking space. You have that parking space because you are sick, which probably could have been prevented had you not kicked the can down the road.
Those With Serious Illness
My wife survived but what about those who have serious illness today, that could have been caught and treated earlier. Did they kick the can down the road too? You bet!
We contribute to this society of treating diseases instead of preventing them my friend, by this same attitude. Remember this: The leaf that drops to the bottom of the river does not rot the same day, but over time it will and when it does it will not be a leaf anymore. Likewise little things that may be benign today may be malignant tomorrow if not caught, and left untreated.
Newt Gingrich on CNN’s Cross Fire today, in discussing the health crisis with other panelist, mentioned the fact that his mother in law was a “compliant patient”. A compliant patient in seeking remedy from this health system. Is that what we will be reduced to be? Shouldn’t we be more proactive people taking serious steps for better health? If we do now, we probably wouldn’t have to burden a system with maladies that make it richer, and you, compliant and dependent, on pills and potions.
A Facebook friend
As I said before and in other blogs, I am not here to change the world. But if I can help one person to change a precipitous life style of bad health I will be happy.
James Powell, a Facebook friend did that for me.
From his regular postings of going to the gym and his picture profile of fitness, I was encouraged to restart my engine in a serious way. One of his recent post makes mention of the fact that just two days a week at the gym can do wonders for most things that ails us from blood pressure to erectile dysfunction.
Maybe one hand can seriously help to wash the other as this brother did for me. I do hope my hand of these postings can indeed help to wash yours from the scummy dross of bad health to the better living that we deserve.
