Why would any one enter a meat eating competition? Or more appropriately why would anyone, any group, any establishment have a meat eating competition? In these competitions slabs of beef, usually up to 6lbs. are to be consumed in a ridiculously short period of time. (A lot of human babies born are not even 6lbs.) You would think that just to eat so much meat is already ridiculous and to be compounded by the limited time should cause the body shock and ultimate trauma. YOU WOULD THINK...but yet they do it.
Yet these competitions reign from Adam Richman to various others on the food channel. Food athletes or foodies or “meaties” lined up to gain the prize of a t-shirt, and to have their names on the infamous wall of fame alongside with their meat mug shot pictures. In a lot of these competitions, yes, as you might know “Food won”. This gluttonous activity should be appropriately classified as a sin.
It seems so arrogant that in the face of starvation in various parts of the world and even some deprived parts of this country that these competitions should be allowed. It is as saying to these poor and unfortunate individuals, and other deprived human beings, and fellow homo sapiens who haven’t tasted a piece of meat since the devil was a boy, that see! We have so much, we can have eating competitions and throw away the rest in the garbage dump. We do not care about you being hungry and all. See Starvation and its effects on the body .
Yes! Watch me you little hungry emaciated, protruding rib, eye bulging excuse of a human being! Watch me, us, with so much that we can have games with food, we can clap and cheer on our gladiators and ask them stupid irritating if not redundant questions at the end, when they give up, like; “ When did you realize you were loosing to food?”
Meat eating competition indeed! The people who are involved in this could not be more desensitized to the issue of the haves and the haves not. They could not be more unconcerned too of people’s health. And in this instance the organizers and participants are in the same boat. It takes a long time for meat to be digested into the system and an inordinate amount, and such dosage of protein cannot be good for any system. In fact such often resulted in protein shock. (Definition of PROTEIN SHOCK : a severe reaction produced by the injection of protein (as bacterial or animal proteins) and marked by chills, fever, bronchial spasm, acute emphysema, vomiting, and diarrhea).
It is no wonder that many of the participants and gladiators have to go around the back and puke after such gruesome and pass animalistic competition. Most other athletes do not get sick after a competition, it should be noted. There should be laws against this kind of thing; both form the public health perspective and the insensitivity to others.
They may say however what the heck! We have it like that we can do it like that. Wouldn’t it be though that such activities could be classified as a sacrilegious use of abundance! What if one should get sick and die or have a seizure in the process? I bet they would counter with "People die form indulgence in other sports too like Mountain Climbing". And I would say you are right. So go on climbing your mountain of meat…But what an attitude to have in the world of survival. Isn’t it true that for the survival of specie it cannot be everyman for himself?
In the world of survival is where I choose to live. I have survived amongst other things: prostate cancer, which I have attributed to my big meat appetite. I have unscrupulously gorged myself with such, with their artificial growth agents as steroids and growth hormones, and antibiotics. I have paid the price but survived to tell the tale that diets play an important if not crucial part in your longevity and good health. The others that are deprived and do not have meats in such abundance, so as to make sports of it, will survive too. Trust me they will! even if by an act of Providence. But it will not be because of your help and that you were sensitive to their situation and plight.
We for our part will continue to be survivors until when food and proper food flows from the mountain tops. Such abundance and ultimate indulgence to our satisfaction will be ordained by the Almighty and will never be sacrilegious. We will not be eating for competition but for our health and well being. In the meantime, walk good... and pack light.
