THE FOOD THAT YOU EAT SHOULD BE MEDICINE TO YOUR BODY- the food that we eat today though, is poison to our body. Surely we started to kill ourselves by that “POISON APPLE” from way back in the Garden of Eden. But by golly have we expedited it, by the poisons we cherish as foods!... and the chemicals with which we grow, produce, and store or preserve our food.
Food should be the staff of life, but for most part every bite we take and every meal we consume is making the DEATH MAN happier. In fact it is either you die prematurely or rely on contrived substances through pharmaceutical industries to keep you teetering on life’s pole. (see conspiracy theory on this blog page).
Not to digress but let’s sidestep as I built upon the real reasons we die.
I have a friend who took me to his backyard garden for an enlightening experience. This gentleman cultivated every vegetable. From tomatoes to peppers, assortments of greens, and fruit trees. All of which he has in his back yard in California. His crops are prolific as the blanched vegetables in my freezer can attest to. He has so much that he cannot give away enough to other friends and neighbors before they either spoil on the tree or in the ground, or he has to turn them into compost.
Bobby, as I will call him, used no fertilizer on his back yard plot. He certainly does not use weed killing agents nor bug killing agents either. He told me he would rather eat an apple with the worm in it as opposed to one that does not have a worm. Why, he said the apple has to be good for the worm to want it. He went on to tell me that if the apple was poisoned with chemicals the worm would be smart enough not to want it so why should he?
This gentleman and backyard farmer went on to tell me that these pesticides are designed to either kill the worm or preventing it from eating the apple. Therefore he firmly believes that applying these things he could be effectively poisoning himself over time.
This man certainly took me back to my boy- hood days of growing up in rural Jamaica. There our policy was IF YOU CANT KILL IT YOURSELF, IF YOU CANT FISH IT OUT OF THE WATER, IF YOU CANT DIG IT OUT THE GROUND OR PICK IT FROM A TREE…you shouldn’t eat it. Things like pesticides, weedicide, insecticide, were foreign to us. Our pigs eat natural foods of mixtures of banana, coconut, mangoes, the peelings from yams and breadfruits and yes they bathed in rich thick mud holes. The cows would eat grass that most times they choose, from roaming the pastures, and our chickens (yard fowls) run around and roost on trees.
This gentleman I call Bobby is not the only one however, that has seen the light. The First Lady, Mrs. Obama has plowed up a significant part of the White House to practice the same philosophy; organic gardening.
The Amish people of Pennsylvania has long endorsed and perfected these natural ways too.
What if most people in the western world were like Bobby, Mrs. Obama, and the Amish people of Pennsylvania? Would we need such big farming businesses to supply us with formed foods?. Yes you read right. I said FORMED FOODS. The foods we eat are so genetically engineered or spruced up with all kinds of growing and producing agents, they may as well be produced in a lab by some mad scientist. The meats we eat today are in a serious competition with the growth period prescribed by nature and be it by God. By comparison Usain Bolt could not run faster than a hatched chicken or a calf or a pig, to get to packaged meat for the market, for preservation and refrigeration and to your plate, and into your system.
The final resting place for these growth hormones, steroids, preservatives antibiotics is your sensitive and delicate organs and tissues.
And so the foods we consume become poison to us than the medicine that it should be. It shouldn’t be so difficult for everyone to turn to and apply organic gardening to their existence, and make it their modus operandi for livity. Remember the First Lady did it and Bobby did it too, and on a wider, more organized scale the Amish people of Pennsylvania.
Granted they have a piece of dirt that they could command for this healthy existence. But what about those of us who live in a concrete jungle called a city? There, the only dirt you would probably get is what they bury you in (That nice piece of dirt reserved for your demise), or what accumulates on your body as soot scum from city combustion, heat and sweat. A simple answer would be to use potted plants on the balcony. The real problem of dirt however stems from the insatiable desire for us to heap upon one another like sediments.
The health reasons for connection with the soil is innumerable. Every element found in the soil is actually in our bodies which by itself should tell us something . However we were bamboozled and hoodwinked to think concrete and high rise is better for us.
There came a time in our experience when to be a country boy or girl was like taboo. Everyone wants to be citified. And because there are no preclusion laws it became TO THE CITY OR BUST! Let’s go live ten or twenty in match-box apartments. Then because of the scarcity of land someone got the bright idea to build high rise apartments, with lustful appeal for the penthouse floor.
In the melee of this scramble we totally forgot that God did crumble the tower of Babel and send humans roving. That after he regrouped his people from oppressive rule in Egypt he gave them lands with each man having his own plot, according to law. That system was so efficient that even the poor and alien resident were provided for. Consequently there was no deprivation or indigence for the denizens of the time.
The scientifically developed world and the technological advancement we have achieved has closely copied nature, learn from nature, etc. Wasn’t the airplane developed from studying the dynamics of a bird’s flight? Isn’t there underway now the studying of the seagull and also a prototype flying machine to emulate its hover ability and maneuverability? And the list could go on. We know for a fact that two lions do not rule a pack unless they are brothers. We know for a fact that most groups of animals and birds for that matter, will separate by instinct to form other groups. And if they lingered on they get prodded on the way by the matriarchs or patriarchs of the groups. So we copied nature for substantial benefits in science and technology but we cannot do the same for living habitats, what a paradox!
If we were supposed to live in compact high rise cities the tower of Babel would have been a successful project. Earlier civilizations flourished in cities that were much small scaled, and much more efficient in their running and operations. People were much closer to the land, the livestock and nature on a whole. No outsiders could get in through their walled cities and this contributed to better security. So another benefit of living in smaller cities could be for sure, the deterrent of terrorism.
In those smaller cities, There were no occurrence of food enhancements and food preservation through these poisonous methods of tins and cans and plastics and “embalmment fluids” the salty concoction in which it stays for years.
Through the mis-edification of humanity, and following blind leaders driven on by their own greed and selfishness, we became the 99% of the people who live on 1% of the land. As a result we have to depend on transported goods and services, not to mention transported foods seeped into all kinds of oils, liquids and salts that the world knows is not good for you, (Embalmment Fluids) but they say eat it anyway. Eat it anyway and gain all kinds of cancers. From breast cancer to prostate cancer and all other maladies, eat it anyway and pass it on to your children too. Eat it anyway and die prematurely. But above all, eat it anyway and make a few people rich and affluent.
Oh yes! Pile upon one another in the concrete jungles and if the food you manufactured and engineered does not kill you, maybe the diseases caused from human congestion will. Indeed the excessive carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, smog, combined with the eradication of natural air purification such as trees, contaminated water, bugs, rodents, garbage, etc. creates another industry in “control” doesn’t it? Yes indeed! Pile up in these concrete jungles, make songs like New York by Alicia keys, glamourize the lights of Las Vegas. Make money for the rich and chase the almighty dollar and so called opportunities… in these concrete jungles. Go on! Contribute to the dysfunctionality of the human race…and our contraction of diseases and our premature demise.
There is one injunction and a decree that could solve most of our food diseases or diseases caused by food, however you want to look at it. And that is if no settlement of human beings should pass twenty thousand. Also, that no building should be over two stories high. This would give everyone the space they would need for a backyard garden and his own land to raise his own meat. This situation is working or has worked clearly in the case of the Maroons of Jamaica. In 1738 a treaty was made with them where they were allotted a significant parcel of land that the generation of today has still not fully access.
Then what about the Amish People of Pennsylvania, don’t they have a well developed system of natural living devoid of the headaches and sicknesses of modernization? These peace-loving people work hard without killing themselves through their indigenous ways of living. They are not cramped for space and are as happy as can be. As we search the globe we still undoubtly find other settlements too which have rebuffed modernization to their joy, happiness, and longevity. But oh no! not us! We allowed ourselves to be herded and corralled by the false lures of progress to live in high rises, with diseases and pills.
I had the great pleasure of visiting the Amish community in Pennsylvania, and enjoyed their great food which is naturally produced. I am not the only one who had a desire for their food as bus loads travelled from all over the region to converge on their restaurants. Is that telling us something, which maybe if we were not forced by these false lures many of us could be living like the Amish? Or for that matter the Maroons of Jamaica. It should be noteworthy here that the western societies of the new world were not congested or squeezed into one like a corseted woman. Whether it was the many tribes of native Indians, or the Incas or the Mayas. So whose idea was it to brick-housed one another to the sky? I ask again.
Contemporized history will attest to the fact that these people flourished until the Europeans come with their various diseases. It is a fact that the New World could have withstood the Spanish sword, but not the influenza. They could have withstood the British Red-Coats, (As the Maroons of Jamaica) but couldn’t resist their diseases, insect borne and air borne.
I couldn’t improve much on these past working examples of societies that existed without the sicknesses and maladies of modern societies. And probably not so much on those that are currently operating in the relatively much better state of health. My hat hangs with the idea of more of these societies. However there is one area that I would make a recommendation in. That would be in areas where water supply could be a little technical. One simple answer could be to pass a decree that structured these smaller settlements to have water catchment and storage facility devoid of chemicals, for each family.
It would make good use of the rainy seasons and avoid the problems associated with lack of water during draughts and hot seasons. In Pennsylvania where I lived for a while the Philadelphia water system was determined to have some fifty four chemicals in the water none of which was good for you. The reasons were that these “medicines/chemicals” could not be extricated by the normal purification system. But don’t worry Pennsylvania; you in fact joined hands with most major cities.
Making this simple water solution more effective, could be the provision of another community reservoir, as a contingency which would be bigger with a capacity to supply animals and man for at least two years. Where did I get this idea from? From growing up in “backward” Jamaica my friend, where there were no talk of such things as prostate cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, etc. Most complaints then were from the common cold that hates the application of the Jamaican White Rum. A couple shots of which would send the cold running for the hills like a tsunami was on its tail.
It burns my heart to know that many of our indigenous farming techniques have been lost on a modern generation. Now we are at the mercy of the supermarkets for us to eat. It is a crying shame that this modern generation does not know how to take care of themselves with the land and of the land. They rely on governmental institutions and big governments, as how a calf relies on udder. The defecation that comes from these sources left them with no choice but to eat. And that is how we survive today, by eating the defecation from the system.
I remember the days growing up that our yields would be abundant from a combination of the knowledge of when to plant, and even when to reap, by observing the phases of the moon. My grandfather who was fairly literate amidst his contemporaries, was the reference source that most would get this information from. He actually had and studied what was called a Farmers Almanac . In following the suggestions in that book most if not all farmers would enjoy a good yield and without pest infestation and most noteworthy, without manufactured fertilizers.
A lot of people would think that my suggestions here are going backward. Let me hasten to observe with you a few facts surrounding this issue. People used to live long and healthy lives back in those days and for the most part die in their beds at home, instead of in the hospital from some chronic ailment. They didn’t have health care systems and obviously didn’t need one. Their resources were not drained by pill popping conglomerates as obviously they did not have a need to take pills.
And, my friend, how bout that for a trade off for better health? Maybe it is because I survived prostate cancer, but I would go backward without hesitation, if the trade is for better health!
Is it any clearer as to the real reasons we die? Man’s decision to rule themselves outside of the decrees of Jehovah, seems to be the root cause of everything else.
Look for part two of this symposium The Real Reasons We Die in which I will discuss Growth Enhancers and Antibiotics in Animals, and Your Health.
